The Samsung Gear smartwatch was recently made official and will be announced on September 4th at Samsung’s press conference. We still know pretty much nothing about the device, but thanks to evleaks, we suddenly have some more information.
Yes, you heard it right! A couple of hours ago many people confirmed their device showing an update notification. However, we are yet to see anything from T-Mobile on their official HTC One S software update page. Reports are coming from those with device in hands. We still need a confirmation word from the T-Mobile though.
Those who are on T-Mobile with HTC One S in hands, might want to check for an update. To check for update, head to Menu-> Settings-> scroll down to About phone -> Software updates -> Check now to try for an update and get updated if you are getting one. We are pretty much sure you will get an update notification. Those who are patient enough can wait and sit back to get notified automatically. Update now, or later, you are still going to get the same output, Android 4.1 Jellybean!
It’s said that everybody has a secret and this is so true to our phones too. A secret is something that keeps us restless till it is not revealed to us. There are still some gateways to peep inside the system but they are not revealed to all, and it is for good.
Rollout starting in Asia via OTA or Kies, other markets to follow in due time
Samsung's mid-sized tablet offering from 2012, the Galaxy Tab 7.7, is seeing a Jelly Bean update start rolling out starting today in select markets. Users of the 3G version of the Tab 7.7 in Asia -- Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia so far -- have been updating their devices both OTA (Over The Air) and through the Samsung Kies desktop software to Android 4.1.2. There's no complete changelog for the update at this point as its rolling out slowly, but we all know the serious improvements in Jelly Bean such as Google Now and Project Butter will be on-board.
Android 4.1.2 firmware shows up on certification forum, release could be days away
As tends to happen with upcoming Sony firmware, the official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for theSony Xperia S (LT26i) has appeared on the website of the PTCRB, the North American wireless device certification forum. It's also joined by official Jelly Bean firmware for the Japan-centric Xperia Acro S and the Xperia SL, an upgraded variant of the S with a higher-clocked CPU.
These are certainly the best specs Sony has ever put in a phone, but does that translate into a device you actually want to buy?
When we first laid eyes on the Xperia ZL at CES 2013, it may not have gotten the attention that it deserved. As the svelte, glass-backed and waterproof Xperia Z was stealing all of the camera time at the Sony booth, tables full of Xperia ZL devices sat unused. While the plastic exterior may not be as striking as the Z at first glance, the ZL is nearly identical in every other way -- a far cry from the "mid-range device" some purported it to be. Sure you don't get waterproofing or a glass back panel, but you do get the same specs, camera and a much easier to hold curved plastic shell in it's place. It's hardly a compromised device.
How big is too big? We go hands-on with the Samsung Mega 6.3, the latest – and biggest – phablet to date to find out.
For those that found the Galaxy Note II just that bit too small Samsung has introduced the Mega. This 6.3” device (there’s also a 5.8” version) is the largest phablet we’ve seen, and really does push the limits of what could acceptably be used as a phone.
'Mini' HTC One could pack 4.3-inch, 720p display, dual-core CPU
HTC was won heaps of praise for the design of its new flagship smartphone, the HTC One. So it's natural that it might want to echo that same iconic look in its new mid-range product, and if the latest leaks are to be believed, that's exactly what's on the cards.
Camera-centric smartphone with 20-megapixel 1/1.6-inch sensor could be coming later this year
Smartphone imaging tech is constantly evolving, with manufacturers cramming ever more advanced shooters into handsets. Now it seems Sony may be taking things a step further with a new flagship phone for late 2013, codenamed "Honami."
Jelly Bean rises as Ice Cream Sandwich falls, legacy versions remain virtually unchanged
Google has released the platform version numbers for the month of April, and the general trends we've seen for the past months is still the norm. Jelly Bean is slowly growing, up to 28.4-percent compared to last month's 25-percent. The majority of the growth looks to be coming from devices released with Ice Cream Sandwich, who's numbers have dropped almost two-percent as devices get updated. Honeycomb is also declining, as is Gingerbread. Legacy numbers are pretty stagnant, and any movement there is likely from users upgrading to a newer device.
Preorder a 32GB version in white by May 24 to qualify for a free cradle
Sony has officially started taking preorders for its newest 10.1-inch Jelly Bean tablet, the Xperia Tablet Z. This incredibly thin, IR-sporting device was announced in late January, and shown off during the Mobile World Congress. It comes with a 'Full HD Reality Display' (1920x1200p WUXGA), 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB RAM, a 2MP camera up front, and an 8MP camera in the rear.
Styled like the Galaxy Note 8.0, the Galaxy Tab 3 has more than a whiff of the mid-range about it
Samsung has pulled the wraps off their latest addition to the Galaxy Tab range with this, the new Galaxy Tab 3. This particular tablet is the 7-inch version, which will launch in a WiFi only flavor at the beginning of May. A 3G-enabled sibling will then follow in June.
AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile versions can now be rooted with a simple tool
Well that certainly didn't take long, did it? With only AT&T's variant shipping to pre-order buyers, Sprint's launch mere hours away and T-Mobile's launch pushed back, we now have a root tool available for these Qualcomm-based Galaxy S4's. The tool, created by djrbliss over at XDA, which was originally made for Motorola devices seems to be working for these Galaxy S4 models as well. Many users in that forum thread are reporting that their devices are being successfully rooted with the tool, which simply takes a few steps of setup and running of a program to root the device.
France the first European country to have the device; South and Central America to follow
The LG Optimus F5, which is the first of the new F Series devices to be unveiled, is ready for a global debut following its unveiling at MWC in Barcelona. The device, which is targeted at a mid-range price point but still packing some high-end design and LTE, is set to be available in France starting April 29th with a whole host of countries in Central and South America as well as Asia to follow. The F5 runs a Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual-core processor, has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, a 540x960 (qHD) 4.3-inch display, 5MP/1.3MP cameras and runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Here's that list:
A popular iOS game for years (yes, years) has finally made its way over to Android, and is packing many gameplay features that took two full game releases to hit the other platform. iBomber is a top-down plane bombing game set in the WWII era, with quality graphics and gameplay that won't blow you away but will certainly leave you satisfied. The game mechanics itself are simple to pick up, but are deceptively hard to master.
Page rendering performance and frequently occurring crashes addressed in today's update
Chrome Beta has been updated in Google Play this afternoon, and along with the usual (and often cryptic) fixes and enhancements, this version was specifically updated with an "Improvement to page rendering performance." Here's the full list of changes, because we know some of you are into that sort of thing.
